Detention of Railroad trains |
Lynchburg, Va., Jan. 20 |
No trains have reached here from the West
during the past two days, in consequence of accidents on the roads. On
Saturdaynight the train, when near Marion, ran into a land slide, which so disabled the engine
as to render it unable to proceed. A dispatch was then sent to
the {Virginia} Central depot, distant
about sixty miles, for an engine, which
was promptly sent forward. |
In the meantime a freight engine
was procured near the slide, and was attached, to the delayed train,
which proceeded eastward, but had not gone over fifteen miles when it
came in collision with the engine from
the Central depot, resulting in the partial destruction of both
engines, breaking the legs of a soldier on the train, and causing
severe injuries to several other persons. |
