The Southside Railroad |
We received the following telegram
yesterday from our friend H. D. Bird, Esq., Superintendent of the
Southside Railroad. |
|
Burkeville, May 17 |
The damage done to our railroad by the
Yankees will be repaired and the trains will cross this evening. We
would have had it done this morning but for the fact that yesterday
was a holiday, and most of the negroes had gone to see their wives.
The only damage done was the burning the depots at Wilson's, Wellville,
Blacks and Whites, and some empty cars at the latter depot. Very
little Government stores were burnt. They burnt the Confederate
Hospital at Blacks and Whites and Mr. Scott's store. |
The damage done to the Danville road was
repaired and the trains ran through last evening. |
