We learn that Col. Clarke, Commandant at
this Post, has received orders from the Secretary of War, that all
travel North, on the Railroads between Charleston and Richmond, via
Wilmington, is prohibited for the period of six days, except to
officers and soldiers returning to their commands, and members of
Congress. We learn that the order is made in consequence of the great
press upon the Railroads, especially on the Road between Greensboro'
and Danville {the Piedmont RR}. This
order does not apply to the Raleigh & Gaston Railroad. |
