Fatal Accident |
A yankee prisoner was accidentally shot
yesterday morning on a wood train of the Western Road {the
Western North Carolina RR}. He was one of thirty who has been
permitted to go up the road to load a train with wood for the use of
the prison. One of the guard in entering the cars with his gun, accidentally
struck the cock against something causing a discharge of the piece.
The lead entered the breast of a prisoner, killing him instantly. It
was a sad incident, and even in these times when human life is
fearfully cheap, cast a gloom over those present, who witnessed it. |
