"An Enemy Hath Done This" |
Beyond question, the
destruction of the bridge on the Jackson Railroad {New
Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern RR}, a few miles this
side of Jackson, on the 1st inst., in consequence of which travel on
the road remains still interrupted, was the work of emissaries of the
enemy, doubtless dispatched from his army to accomplish it. A
gentleman of good judgment, who arrived in town from the scene of the
disaster, says that this is the undoubted truth, and the supposition
is constrained by the fact that for some time past suspicious looking
strangers have been seen prowling about that vicinity. |
The bridge will soon be
reconstructed, and regular travel and transportation restored.
Meantime mails, passengers and freight are transferred across from one
train to another. |
A sharp lookout should be kept
for spies and pioneers in mischief all along the line of our
railroads. |
