New Orleans & Texas Railroad |
The Franklin, (St. Mary
parish) Banner, referring to the fact that the New Orleans & Texas
Railroad Company are now prepared to receive proposals for the
grading, bridging and superintendence of the entire road from New
Iberia, on the Teche, to Orange, on the Sabine, a distance of 117
miles, remarks: |
We are glad to notice that the
prospects of the early completion of this road are every day
brightening. Why cannot our Southern Congress furnish a million of
dollars and help to put the road through at once. Its value to the
South would be almost beyond computation. In case of a short crop in
the older Southern States this road could pour immense quantities of
meat, corn and flour into the famishing districts, and do much towards
preserving our army from famine. Why does Congress pause when such
momentous questions are before them? |
