Memphis & Ohio Railroad Depot Burned |
The Memphis Appeal of the 15th
inst. says: |
At 3
o'clock on Saturday morning, a fire broke out in the handsome building
in the Navy-yard, belonging to the city, and used by the Ohio Railroad
as a passenger depot. The passenger depot had been handsomely fitted
up, and convenient offices connected with it; these were to be used
yesterday morning for the first time since they were completed. The
Superintendent's office, telegraph office and ticket office were in
the building. The fire broke out up stairs among the offices. The
building is not extensively injured. It was insured for $15,000, but a
comparatively small sum will restore. The books and papers in the
offices were to a great extent destroyed. No doubt is entertained that
the fire was the work of a fiendish incendiary, for whose discovery
and arrest a heavy sum is offered. |
