Negro Killed |
A negro man was killed by
jumping from the cars of the Opelousas Railroad {New
Orleans, Opelousas & Great Western RR}, on a recent trip.
It appears that he was arrested as a runaway some fourteen miles from
Algiers, and when the cars were within about two miles of that place,
and going at full speed, he managed to slip off the rope with which he
had been confined, and jumped off. He fell, however, with his breast
on a cross-tie, killing him instantly. He was about five feet ten
inches high, and 23 years of age, and said first that his name was
Jim, and then Alexander. His body is still at the warehouse, we
believe, for recognition. |
