We invite the particular
attention of the stockholders of this company, and of the public
generally, to the advertisement of Col. R. V. Richardson, agent, 84
Common street, in another column, which gives a concise but accurate
statement of the affairs of this company, the prospects it holds out
to those already interested in the work, or who may become interested
hereafter in the $500,000 worth of new stock it is proposed to issue,
on the terms and for the purpose indicated. |
The statement of Col. R. is so
clear, explicit and convincing, that it seems to us the full amount
asked for should be taken in this single city within a week: and we
doubt not it would have been so taken ere this, but for the political
and other excitements which have absorbed the attention of the people.
As it is, we should have preferred to see the whole sum subscribed for
here -- for in a commercial sense, we of New Orleans are to be the
principal beneficiaries when the road is completed -- although but
one-fifth of the amount needed to place the work beyond the reach of
danger and finish fifty additional miles, is expected to be received
in this metropolis. |
Many of the largest and most
intelligent stockholders are paying up freely. This was expected from
them, for they well know the vast value of the franchise in which they
are interested; and they also are aware, that if, owing to the
neglect, lack of knowledge, or refusal to pay up on the part of
others, the road should be sold, that their interests will not only be
protected but enhanced, by the company of gentlemen who stand ready to
purchase it the moment it passes under the Sheriff's hammer. These are
facts, within the knowledge of all who read the newspapers of the
country; consequently, if the non-payers to a small loan lose all the
interests they possess, they must lay the blame upon themselves. We
trust none of them will be thus negligent. |
With these brief remarks,
again referring to the card of Col. Richardson, we take leave of the
subject for the present, hoping to be able to announce, in a few days,
that the entire amount of the loan has been taken. |
