Southern Pacific Railroad |
A meeting of the stockholders
of the Southern Pacific railroad company, held last evening in parlor P,
St. Charles hotel, Mr. S. J. Adler was called to the chair, and Mr. J.
J. Tarleton was requested to act as secretary. |
Mr. Ward, of Marshall, Texas,
addressed the meeting, stating that the road was to be completed from
Shreveport to Marshall by Wednesday, the 25th inst. There were three
engines and sufficient passenger and freight cars already upon the road
to meet the requirements of the fall and winter business. |
Mr. J. S. Mitchell also made
some remarks in relation to the condition and prospects of the road,
representing them in a very favorable light. He believed the people west
of Marshall will grade fifty miles more of the road, and that the people
of Kentucky will furnish the iron to complete it as fast as the Texas
people grade it. |
Mr. H. S. Fulkerson offered
the following resolutions: |
Resolved, That the industry,
zeal, and energy, of the president and directors of the company in
pushing forward to completion of the road between Shreveport, La., and
Marshall, Texas, entitles them to the thanks of the stockholders. |

Which were unanimously
adopted, after which, on motion, the meeting adjourned. [N. O. Crescent] |
