Orange & Alexandria Railroad |
We learn from the Lynchburg Virginian, that a
reconnaissance was made over the Orange & Alexandria railroad on
Tuesday last, and it was found that the road was not injured as much
as was anticipated. All the bridges between Rockfish depot and North
Garden -- a distance of 24 miles -- were left untouched, and also
all between Rockfish and Tye river, a distance of 13 miles, escaped
destruction. They burned six bridges, aggregating thirteen hundred
feet. They tore up only about one and a half miles of track, about
Arrington depot. The depot at North Garden, Coveville, Rockfish,
Arrington, and New Glasgow were burned. |
