Death of a Well Known Railroad Man |
Colonel Thomas Dodamead was one of the most widely known
railroad men of Virginia. He was a native of Philadelphia, and came
to Virginia in 1840. When a youth, he learned the trade of engine
building. He served as Superintendent of several Virginia roads and
always efficiently. When the Chesapeake & Ohio was the Virginia
Central, he was superintendent of that line several years, during
Colonel Fontaine's presidency. For nine years, he was the
superintendent of the Greenville & Columbia road of South Carolina.
His last service was superintendent of the Danville & New River
narrow-gauge road, from which he withdrew last Spring because of
failing health. |
Governor Letcher commissioned him Colonel in the Virginia
line and assigned him during the war to the movement of troops and
supplies on the Virginia & Tennessee railroad. |
Colonel Dodamead died at his late residence in Richmond
last Friday. He was buried in Hollywood Sunday from the Second
Baptist Church of that city with Masonic and Odd Fellowship honors. |
