Travelling West
|
The train on the {Virginia} Central
Railroad now runs to Jackson's River Depot, the railroad bridge,
across the Cowpasture river having been completed. It will be
remembered that this bridge was destroyed in the spring of 1862 by the
enemy guided by the traitor, Dr. Wm. P. Rucker. In a very short time,
our enterprising citizen, Mr. Jas. I. A. Trotter, will have a stage
line running from the terminus of the railroad to Lewisburg. Persons
travelling West will find this the most direct and expeditious route.
Mr. Trotter has already lost heavily by the enemy in his efforts to
keep up a line of stage, running to Lewisburg, but he is a man who is
not to be discouraged by temporary losses. He practices the virtue of
persistence in a worthy enterprise and believes in the motto: "By
perseverance, we conquer." Mr. Trotter employs good drivers, has
good stages and horses, and deserves success.
