Macon and Warrenton Road {Milledgeville
RR} |
The Warrenton Clipper, of the
14th, says the engineer ran the first train on the Macon and Warrenton
Railroad the previous day with five car loads of the heaviest T iron
rails ever brought to Georgia. It was a part of this famous lot of
iron of which the world-renowned Stephens Battery {the
Ironclad Battery in Charleston Harbor} was constructed. |
This new Road, notwithstanding
the pressure of the times, continues to progress, and should no
untoward accident occur Sparta will soon be attached to the balance of
the busy world, by the best and most substantial Railroad in the
Confederate States. It is almost an air line from Warrenton to Sparta,
famous for its deep cuts and high embankment. |
The enterprise will be pushed
on with all possible speed to Macon. |
