Fatal Railroad Accident |

Edward's Depot, Dec. 31 |
An accident occurred on the
Southern {of Mississippi} railroad, three
miles below this station, at eleven o'clock this morning. The
following persons were killed: G. W. Etheridge, H. C. McCartney, J. J.
Miles, all of Company G, 35th Mississippi; Richard Lowrey, Company I,
30th Alabama; James L. Andrews, of Vernon, Miss., Company Q, Withers'
artillery and forty-one others were wounded -- some, it is thought,
mortally. |
Lieut.-Col. Kerney, of Vernon,
Miss., and of the 18th Mississippi, had one of his arms broken in two
places. |
The killed and wounded are at
this place. |
