Accident on the Central
{(of Georgia)} Railroad |
A melancholy accident occurred
on the Central Railroad on Friday night last, on the mail and passenger
train. It was caused by the breaking of a wheel of the baggage car,
between Stations 26 and 17. The car was entirely demolished, causing the
death of Patrick Dodd, the baggage master, a man named James Creed and a
negro. The ladies's car, immediately following the baggage car, was
turned over, and eight ladies injured -- two of them, it is feared,
mortally. Mr. Creed was one of the prisoners captured by the Federals at
Fort Pulaski, and he was taking a trip over the road to gain such
information as would fit him for future employment by the Southern
Express Company. He leaves a wife and four children. His body and that
of Mr. Dodd were so badly mutilated as to be scarcely indentified,
except by their clothing. |
