A Narrow Escape |
The Memphis Appeal of the
25th, learns that by the exertions of a patriotic young lady who
resides between Senatobia and Cold Water, on the Memphis
and Mississippi
railroad {the Mississippi & Tennessee RR}, one of the trains was saved from falling into the hands of
the marauding party of Federals who recently visited Cold Water.
The train was conveying General Thompson with a small scouting
party, and was stopped by the engineer, on a signal being given by the
lady, in time to avoid the danger.
Her name will be remembered by those who were saved from
capture, and we regret we cannot give it to the public that a more
general honor might be done. |
