We have traveled over the Central {(of
Georgia)} road from Macon to a mile below Griswoldville to
Gordon. All of the distance, except for one mile, the road is a
complete wreck. The enemy did their work of destruction on this part
of the road most thoroughly. At Gordon and for miles around the
village the destruction is appalling. The Milledgeville and Gordon
road {a branch of the Central RR} is
destroyed for a distance of three or four miles from Gordon north, and
from Milledgeville for four miles south. The road can be repaired in a
short time, with the exception of the bridge at Milledgeville. We
learn that it is expected to have the road in operation from Macon to
Midway, two miles from Milledgeville, in three or four weeks. |
