The construction of this connecting link between the Railroads of Middle and Southern Alabama and Northern Georgia and East Tennessee, is about commencing in earnest. We refer to the advertisements from the Chief Engineer's Office, and hope they will be promptly answered.
This work is only about 60 miles in length, one half of which is nearly ready for the superstructure, and the remainder is surface work which may be done very rapidly.
This is considered by railroad men, the most important gap to be filed in the Confederacy. It will do much for us as a local -- opening the fine farming lands and mines of coal and iron of North Alabama directly to the markets of Atlanta, Augusta, E. Tenn. & Virginia.
