Ala. & Tenn. River Railroad -- Cheapest and Nearest Route North |
Through all the embarrassments of the times, and
innumerable difficulties which seemed to have environed the energetic
Contractors on this road, they have steadily, and without intermission
continued the work of track laying. |
They have now passed Oxford several miles, and we are
informed that it will be finished to the Steam Mill, 10 miles from this
place by the 1st day of January. |
For the continuance of this great work for some time
past, its stockholders and friends are indebted to the indomitable
energy and perseverance of Maj. B. C. Wyly and Col. J. B. Forney, upon
whose shoulders have rested the whole labor and responsibility. |
Surely the traveling public will learn after a while,
that with close and rapid connection of Messrs. Powell & Hutchinson
short link of daily staging from the head of the Road to Rome, this is
now incomparably the shortest and cheapest route for all the section of
country south of this to Western Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and the
North generally. On the short link of staging travellers will find fine
coaches, good teams and experienced careful and accommodating drivers
with good accommodations at all the stopping places on the road. |
