The Hempstead Courier, says
that the first train passed over the Brazos Bridge to Chappell Hill {on
the Washington County RR}, on the 27th January, and that by the
15th prox., the road will be in running order to Brenham. It is
graded all the way, and the rails have been laid down to within 4 or 5
miles of the town. The Courier says that this has a longer span than
any other in the United States, being 262 feet. The span of the bridge
at Rock Island, built by the same contractors, Pride & Boomer, is
260 feet; it was at the head of the list until the Brazos Bridge was
built. |
