We understand that the drift
wood has so accumulated above the railroad bridge, at Richmond, on the
Brazos {Buffalo Bayou, Brazos & Colorado RR},
that persons walk across on it dry footed. The raft thus formed covers
several acres; and, as the river has fallen since it accumulated, is
likely to remain until a freshet carries away driftwood and bridge
together or cuts a channel around them, unless active steps are taken
to remove the impediment in the mean time. Efforts are now being made
for the purpose, but the task is represented to be very great. |
