In behalf of the soldiers aid
society of Travis county, we addressed the Mr. Quigg, Superintendent
of the Harrisburg road {Buffalo Bayou, Brazos
& Colorado RR}, and Col. A. M. Gentry President of the N.
O. and Texas road {Texas & New Orleans RR},
asking the use of cars to transport their wagons and teams, with
clothing for Virginia troops, to Beaumont. Both gentlemen immediately
gave a favorable response, and we are requested to say that they will
transport all clothing destined for the troops in Virginia, without
delay. Col. Gentry's road will carry it clean to the Sabine. We have
no doubt that the other railroads will do the same. |
This will enable our liberal
hearted people to get their contributions forwarded rapidly. We trust
that all the counties will make arrangements to get their freight
forwarded from the Sabine. |
