| The President and Officers of the Opelousas Railroad
{New Orleans, Opelousas & Great Western RR} |
| The Franklin (St. Mary) Banner, of the
31st ult., says: |
| President Hewes, of the Opelousas
Railroad, is doing much for the Southern cause; and indeed all the
officers -- Seger, Bailey, and all the rest -- so far as we are
informed, are doing all in their power to aid the good work. President
Hewes uses his power where he has it, and his influence where he lack
the power, to help the soldier along, and feed and clothe him; gives
free passage to any one where the Southern cause would be benefitted by
so doing; passes provisions for soldiers' families free of charge; lends
barges and implements on the same score; works hard to establish a
telegraph between Brashear and New Orleans; and does his duty promptly,
intelligently and freely. Such men as he do a vast amount of good that
the world is never informed of. |
