The steamer Aunt Letty, Capt. D. H.
Kenney, bound from St. Louis for Cairo with a New Orleans cargo, struck
a snag and sunk at Goose Island, twenty miles above Cairo, on Monday
night. The steamer Hannibal, for which boat she was loaded, went to her
assistance and commenced taking off the freight, about three quarters of
which was damaged. The Aunt Letty had about 250 tons on board. It is
thought that the boar can be saved. She was owned by Capt. D. H. Kenney
her commander who lately purchased and repaired her, and was valued at
$8,000. There was no insurance on the boat. |
