San Antonio & Mexican Gulf Railroad |
We have been officially informed that this
road is now completed to the town of Victoria, with side tracks. The
depot itself and all the necessary appliances are perfected for the
prompt and satisfactory despatch of business. We would appeal to our
merchants and to all our people in this region of country, to take an
active interest in the successful working of this road. |

By-the-by, we learn with surprise that the
municipal authorities of the city of Lavacca, are high tariff men. We
are told that they charged ten cents a package for all freight
crossing a street on the railroad; but, upon reflection, have modified
the charge to half a dime per package. Wise and liberal lawgivers!
This is a homely and quaint story told of a goose that laid a golden
egg! |
