Union Sentiment Showing Itself -- Rebel
Vandalism |
A correspondent of the
Indianapolis Journal writing from Martinsburg, on the B. & O. R. R.,
among other things says: |
***** |
As you are aware, the rebels
under Jackson, who now commands at Winchester, burnt the bridges and
locomotives from Black Creek Bridge to Harper's Ferry in June. I have
seen before great destruction of property, but the world does not afford
another instance of such wanton destruction. The road is torn up, the
ties burnt, the iron taken off, the embankments thrown down, the cuts
filled up, the water stations burnt, and everything belonging to the
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad destroyed. At one place you can see 64
locomotives and tenders that were burnt, besides an untold number of
coal and box cars, and a number of passenger cars. ***** |
