Change of Schedule |
Attention is called to the new
schedule of the Southern {(of Mississippi)}
Railroad, which goes into effect on Sunday, the 30th. It will be seen
that important changes and the most desirable connections for
traveling facilities have been made. The time between Vicksburg and
New Orleans has been shortened several hours, by the improved
connections made by both the Eastern and Western trains of the
Southern Railroad, with the Northern and Southern trains of the New
Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern Railroad at Jackson, and from
the same cause, it makes the time by railroad travel, the only
communication now left, between New Orleans and Mobile, only 24 hours.
The connections between the Southern Railroad and the M. & O.
Railroad at Meridian, are all that could be asked. |
Passengers leaving Vicksburg at 2:30 P. M., will find themselves in
Mobile at 8 the next morning; and passengers leaving Mobile at 4 P.
M., will be in Vicksburg at 10:30 the next morning. The through ticket
from Vicksburg to Mobile, we understand is $11, and from New Orleans
to Mobile $12.50. Both trains, from the North and the South, on the M.
& O. Railroad, meet at Meridian at 11:45 at night. The train from
Vicksburg reaches there at the same time, transferring its passengers
without delay to the Northern or Southern train, according to their
destination; and the train coming to Vicksburg takes passengers from
both trains and departs at 12:30 at night. It will also be observed,
that this route, via Meridian and Lauderdale by rail and thence to
Uniontown, to Selma and Montgomery, presents decided advantages, both
as to expenses and time, over any other route between Vicksburg and
New Orleans, and those cities. |
