The Milledgeville Union
forcibly urges the Confederate Government to take in hand and finish
with dispatch the railroad from Milledgeville to Warrenton, which, it
says, with one or two very slight exceptions, is graded all the way.
Only a few days will be required to repair the roads from Macon to
Milledgeville. Should the Government undertake to finish the Warrenton
branch to Milledgeville, it will have a shorter through railroad route
from Richmond to the Southwest than ever before, and, being all the
way far inland, it will be more secure than the lines running near the
seaboard. We think the suggestion a very timely one. |
