Meridian, March 24, 1864 |
We have just finished
repairing the road destroyed by Gen. Sherman's forces. The work has
been accomplished in twenty-nine and a half days -- and four and
one-half of these no work was done, on account of rain. A large force
is now employed on that part of the road {Mobile
& Ohio RR} which was destroyed by Gen. Smith's forces, from
Tibbee to Okolona, a distance of thirty-five miles. It is believed
that this portion of the road will be finished in then. days. |
