Dear Sir, |
I have learned with regret
that a move is on foot to induce the State authorities to proceed to
take possession of the Railroad as a "military necessity,"
and that the reason assigned for this proceeding is owing to the many
rumors that have been put in circulation, as I believe, without any
proper foundation. During last week we had an examination of the books
of the Company in connection with some of the home creditors, and the
result was entirely satisfactory to myself and others -- it appearing
that all the money received for the past six months has been expended on
the Road, which fact the company will be pleased to demonstrate to
any parties that will take the trouble to call at this office.
I have determined to take upon myself the active duties of President
during the absence of Mr. Barrett, and endeavor to carry the company
through this crisis -- feeling confident that in doing so I shall but
discharge my duties to those who have placed me in the position I
occupy. I ask your aid and that of the friends of the Road in
sustaining it, and hope that the company shall not be condemned on
rumor. Write me fully. |
Yours, truly, |
T. H. McMahan |
Vice-President |
