Fatal Railroad Accident |
Explosion of a locomotive Engine Boiler |
On Saturday morning, between
four and five o'clock, the locomotive "Thomas Dodamead,"
while drawing a freight train from Petersburg for this city {Richmond
& Petersburg RR}, exploded its boiler about two miles from
Petersburg, killing Mr. T. B. Bragg the Conductor, his assistant (a
brother in law,) William Perdue, Engineer, --- Deales, Fireman, and
seriously scalding and otherwise injuring a negro Brakesman. Two cars
were wrecked. The explosion was sudden, and as may be inferred from
the casualties, wholly unexpected. Portions of the engine were thrown
into the air and around to considerable distance. The locomotive was
an old one, and the explosion was doubtless owing to some interior
defect occasioned by wear ??? ???. |
