We are informed by Mr. Rumbough, the resident engineer
of the Memphis & Little Rock Railroad, that the road is progressing
rapidly to completion. They have now, out of 46 miles between Arkansas
and White rivers, 45 1/2 completely graded; and out of 110,000 ties to
complete the road, there are 100,000 delivered on the road. The piling
and trestling is nearly completed -- spiking and iron being rapidly
received. There are 5 1/2 miles laid on the White river end, and about 1
1/2 miles on the Arkansas river. Every nerve is strained to effect an
early completion. |
