The bridge burning by the
rebels at Harper's Ferry has not worked to their own advantage. There
are some fifty {Baltimore & Ohio RR} engines
at Martinsburg, of which Gen. Johnston would gladly avail himself, as
he has but one at the Ferry, but he is unable to repair
the bridges. Provisions are growing exceedingly scarce in the camp,
and large numbers of the soldiers are sick. There would seem to be
little doubt of a speedy evacuation. [It has been done.] |
