It is believed at Washington
that the Confederate army have again fallen back, deserting Vienna and
the whole line of the Leesburg railroad {Alexander,
Loudon & Hampshire RR}, and concentrating at Fairfax Court
House. It is also reported from the Upper Potomac that they have
withdrawn their forces from the vicinity of Leesburg back towards the
Manassas Gap railroad, with the intention, it is supposed, of falling
back upon Manassas Junction. Before retiring from Vienna they tore up
the railroad, carrying off the rails and burning the sleepers. They
also burned a railroad bridge. |
