Southern Pacific R. R. |
A correspondent of the New
Orleans Times writing from Shreveport says: "A committee of the
Board of Directors of the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in this city
yesterday, to see Gen. Veatch commanding the northern division of
Louisiana, in regard to the completion of the railroad between this
place and Marshal, Texas, there being a gap of eleven miles to complete
it. This part of the road is graded, and only needs laying the iron to
make the connection complete; and, with the assistance of the
government, if can be done in thirty days, thus opening means of
transportation for the large amount of cotton and other resources of
northern Texas to this market." |
