Memphis & Little Rock Rail Road |
We have seen and conversed
with Mr. Rombough, one of the Engineers of the Memphis & Little
Rock Rail Road. From him we learn that, at the first of this week,
there were but nineteen miles of track to lay on the road between
Devall's Bluff and this place, and that track laying was going on, at
the eastern end of the gap, at the rate of half a mile a day, and, on
this end, at from a quarter to a half a mile a day. The work is being
prosecuted with the utmost energy, and, in a few weeks, at the
farthest, the connection will be complete between Devall's Bluff and
Little Rock. |
Col. R. W. Johnson writes the
True Democrat that, on the 29th ult., he submitted a resolution, to
the Confederate Congress, instructing the Committee on military
affairs to enquire into the ??? of an appropriation to complete the
section of this road between Devall's Bluff and here as a matter of
military necessity. We ??? strong hope that this measure may be ???
through Congress. The importance of ??? in a military point of view,
is palpable to all who have the least information upon the subject. |
We have hope of seeing the
connection between this place and Memphis complete before ???. |
