Death of a Good Citizen |
The painful intelligence was
received in this city yesterday of the death of George W. {A.}
Cuyler, who died at Munich, Germany, on the 12th ult. The deceased had
been for a number of year the Cashier of the Central Railroad Bank of
this city, the duties of which position he discharged with the utmost
fidelity and ability. |
In the death of this
gentleman, Savannah has lost one of its best citizens, and our
commercial circle one of its most valuable and practical members. His
whole life has been one of usefulness. Possessed of a high order of
intelligence, remarkable sagacity and great energy, he, at an early
age, became a prominent and successful business man, and his purity
and integrity of character won him the honor and confidence of his
fellow citizens. Who that knew George W. {A.}
Cuyler can ever forget his kind, genial manner his warm honest clasp
of the hand, extended as freely to the poor as to the rich; his ever
welcome salutation as he met friend after friend in the pathway of
life. He was not one of those fitful, varying characters which meet us
so often in our intercourse with the world; but one day found him as
another -- the same warm and devoted friend. |
Thus has passed away an
excellent Christian, and kind and good man, and a useful citizen,
whose life has benefited his fellow men, and whose death is a great
loss to the community. Peace to his ashes. |
