Southwestern Rail Road Company |
At the Annual meeting of the
Board of Directors of this Company, yesterday, the following officers
were re-elected: |
President -- R. R. Cuyler |
Board of Directors -- J. W. Anderson, W. A.
Black, W. S. Holt, T. M. Furlow, R. A. Smith |
We paid a visit to the Machine
Shop of this Road, and were gratified to see the work prosecuted so
well under the skillful care of T. B. Elfe, Master Machinist, (one
indeed.) |
In the Round house, there are
twenty-one Engines, Freight and Passenger, of superior make and
elegant finish, and all as bright as a new pin, except one laying up
for repairs. The Machine shop is supplied with an abundance of water,
by means of a pump, drawing water from a branch two hundred feet
distant. Every apartment by means of pipes are supplied with water for
all necessary purposes. The machinery used are of the most improved
kinds. All the augurs used in repairing the track are made at the
blacksmith shop of this Road -- something, we believe, that is not
done by other Roads. All necessary brass castings are cast at the
Brass foundry of this Company. Everything works as if by clock-work --
systematically, surely and promptly, in the machine works -- a
compliment to the skill and energy of Mr. Elfe. |
This company has for a long
time built its own cars, complete. We saw some beautify specimens of
passenger cars made by them for their own use. |
This Company contemplates
enlarging their buildings at an early day, so as to permit them to put
up a larger steam engine. e trust also that they will erect a Foundry
for the casting of Car Wheels, etc. |
The energetic Superintendent
and Engineer, Virgil Powers, J. T. Boifeuillet, the faithful and
courteous Secretary and Treasurer, and other officers, are still at
their posts. |
The Road is in as flourishing
a condition as can be expected during these "hard times."
May its prosperity never be diminished. |
