100 Hand Wanted |
To lay track, cut cross-ties
and do other work on the Piedmont Road, in North Carolina. |
By the interruption of the
East Tennessee Line, this connection between Danville, Va., and
Greensboro, N. C., is of almost vital importance. The Hon. Secretary
of War so considered it and promises the aid of the Government in
enabling the Company to finish it in the shortest possible time.
Transportation will be furnished free to and from the work, and
subsistence provided by the Government. In addition, the Piedmont
Company will pay $10 per month for all ablebodied railroad hands or
good axemen. None but such hands are wanted. The negroes will probably
be wanted some four or five months, but if desired by the owner, could
be returned at the end of the year. |
Some ten miles of grading also
remains to be done, amounting to about four hundred thousand cubic
yards of earth, which the Company is desirous to let to responsible
contractors. For further information apply at the Macon &
Brunswick Railroad Office, Macon. |
