Railroad Accident |
Millen, October 17 |
A fearful collision occurred
this morning on the Savannah and Augusta {Augusta
& Savannah} Railroad, about fifteen miles from Augusta. The
freight train ran into the morning passenger train, injuring at least
twenty cars and wounding several ladies, Mrs. Starke, of Savannah,
severely. |
The passenger train stopped at
a half station for wood, which was so inferior that steam could not be
raised, and the train was consequently delayed. A messenger was sent
back to hail the freight train which was following but the latter was
too close to bring up and plunged right into the rear of the passenger
train almost demolishing it. |
