We had the pleasure, yesterday
of meeting with Col. Wm Johnston, the accomplished President of the
Augusta & Columbia and Charlotte & South Carolina Railroad
Companies. We are gratified to learn that a fair prospect obtains of a
short and speedy connection with our friends in Columbia. About four
hundred hands are at work on the two ends of the A. & C. Railroad
while the planters of Edgefield are ready to complete the central
portion. This road will be of immense service to the people and
Government and has been too long overlooked. |
