The Great Snowstorm in Tennessee |
Detention of Trains |
The Bristol News of the 5th
says: "A snowstorm commenced in this region on Saturday night
last, and continued till Monday morning, covering the earth to a depth
of about one foot -- the deepest snow that has fallen in this section
of the country for five years. It had the effect to interrupt travel
on the railroads for a day or two, detaining a large number of
travelers in our town." In another article the News says:
"The Virginia & Tennessee railroad trains which left
Lynchburg on Sunday morning impeded by the snow, reached Bristol
Wednesday evening. The passengers from the west, who had been
weatherbound here for several days, greeted the arrival of the train
with a most enthusiastic shout of joy at the prospect thus afforded
them of resuming their journey." |
