Mr. Editor, |
A very destructive smash-up occurred last night, about nine o'clock,
four miles south of Newnan {on the Atlanta &
West Point RR}, with the foremost train carrying soldiers
by this route towards Corinth, Miss. The train was a long one, having
twenty-six box cars and about a regiment of soldiers. Nine of the
front boxes were completely wrecked and thrown off the track. Only one
man was killed -- Private G. A. N. Greene, of Lincoln county, Tenn.
Some twenty-five, perhaps, are wounded, but none are considered
dangerous. The wounded are left in Newnan -- distributed at private
houses. The trains were detained here until nine o'clock this morning.
Six horses were killed by the accident. Yours respectfully, |
John
E. Robinson. |
