Damage to Rail Road |
Information reached the city
yesterday that on Sunday night a considerable portion of the Mobile
& Ohio Railroad, through Cypress Creek bottom in Tennessee, was
carried away by the flood -- the consequence of the recent rains --
which had by that time attained their full force. The piece of road
??? Lossburg and Ramer, and we have heard it described as a very
ticklish piece of work, very hastily put up by some Northern
contractors. How extensive the damage is, we do not know, but we infer
from what we have been told that it is distributed over a space of
seven miles. As the break is on this side of Jackson, Tennessee,
communication with Columbus, Ky., still continues open via Grand
Junction. |
