Arrival and Departure of Prisoners |
The railroad train, Saturday
night brought down {Mobile & Ohio RR}
upwards of 1700 Federal prisoners, who, with those that had arrived
previously, except such as were too severely wounded to be moved, went
up the river yesterday, bound for Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. The whole
number sent off is about 1950, including 158 commissioned officers. The
Cadet Rifles, Bay Chasseurs, Bienville Rangers, Merchants' Guard and
Mobile Greys accompany them as a guard. ***** |
Another detachment of
prisoners, amounting to 900 are expected to night. |
