Railway Connection |
The preparatory labor for
connecting the lines of the {Memphis &} Ohio
and Mississippi {& Tennessee} railroad
along Main street is rapidly progressing, and in ten days the iron
will be down and the road ready for operations. The work is done by
military direction and at the government expense. It is probable that
the connection with the {Memphis &} Charleston
railroad will be made along Washington street. |
Below is a copy of the ???
telegram from Columbus. It is published that an idea may be formed of
the exigency that demands the construction. If the route along the La
Grange old railroad track from Fort Pickering, from the Mississippi
river to the Charleston road, and from the Charleston road along
Walnut and Dunlop streets to the Ohio road, were followed, the labor
would occupy two months. Along Main street, it will be completed in
ten days: |
Columbus, Ky., February 26, 1862 |
To J. P. Wood, President: {Memphis
& Ohio RR} |
The route over which you can
??? lay the track must be the one adopted. If it carry you through the
city, the inconveniences, in view of the public good, could be
temporarily submitted to. Carry it through Main street, if necessary. |
