Serious Railroad Accident |

Vicksburg, February 17 |
The heavy rains experienced
during the last three days, washed away a culvert on the Southern {(of
Mississippi)} railroad a mile and a half distant from this
city, on Monday evening. The engine, tender and baggage car of the
passenger train coming west was precipitated into the chasm at two
o'clock this morning. |
The engineer, fireman and wood
passer were seriously injured; A. O. Orr, the Pioneer Express
company's agent was suffocated by the escaping stream; W. H??, baggage
master, slightly injured, and John M. Jackson, slightly injured. Mr.
Dobbins, the Pioneer Express messenger, is missing. |
