From East Tennessee |
A gentleman who just arrived
from Richmond, advises us that the journey from that city to Memphis
is a tedious one, owing to the interruption to the trains on the East
Tennessee {& Georgia} railroad caused
by the destruction of the bridges. He was five days making the trip. |
Two of the bridges destroyed
were very costly and cannot be speedily rebuilt; but the railroad
managers are using every effort to keep communication open by means of
ferry boats and temporary bridges at all the crossings where the
passage of trains had been obstructed by the incendiaries, and the
road will be put in order at the earliest practicable moment. |
