Memphis & Little Rock Railroad --
Important |
We learn from the Little Rock True
Democrat, of the 29th ult., that a bill has passed the senate of
Arkansas loaning to this company the sum of one hundred thousand
dollars. It was probably taken up in the house on the day following
with a strong probability of its passage. The True Democrat remarks
that, so far, the legislature has shown a disposition to afford the
road all the aid possible, and makes a strong appeal in its behalf. It
well says: |
All the individual aid
possible has been given. Tennessee and Memphis have done their part
well. They have put a third of the road in operation, and with the
assistance of this city and county, have made almost all the rest of
the road ready for the iron, which has been bought, but which yet
remain in the custom house, and will remain there until the company
can get the cash to pay it. Everything now depends on the acts of the
legislature. Let Arkansas do her part. |
